ABOUT GIRLS THRIVE

What is Girls Thrive?

Girls Thrive is an after-school youth program for girls, in grades 4-12, designed to inspire girls to grow in self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive body image through various physical activities and educational lessons. Girls try new things, learn practical life skills, challenge themselves, and build community and connections with other girls in our area.

Who is Girls Thrive for?

Girls Thrive is for girls in grades 4-12 who want to try new physical activities and boost their confidence, strength, and positive body image. Girls with different interests, abilities, and experiences are encouraged to participate. Public, private, and homeschool students are welcome.

What does Girls Thrive aim to teach girls?

We hope to teach girls how to try all sorts of physical activities like rock climbing, mountain biking, trail running, yoga, strength training, cross country skiing, winter hiking, trail maintenance, and more! We also want girls to leave knowing they are capable of doing hard things and trying things that may feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable. Through physical activities and hands-on experiences, girls practice skills such as: confidence, leadership, teamwork, resilience, body awareness, decision-making, goal-setting, and more!

What makes Girls Thrive different from a traditional sports program?

Girls Thrive isn’t about becoming the fastest runner, strongest climber, or best athlete. Instead, we use physical activities and outdoor experiences paired with educational lessons to help girls develop skills they can carry into the rest of their lives.

Does my daughter need to be athletic or have prior experience?

Not at all! We welcome girls of all experience levels and abilities. There is no required fitness or skill level, and girls are encouraged to learn, challenge themselves, and grow together. Girls with more experience have opportunities to build leadership skills by supporting their peers. The one exception is that girls participating in mountain biking with our Community Program need to be able to independently ride a bike and have basic bike-handling skills. Other than that, we meet the girls where they are at.
